GUNS N' ROSES is one of the undisputed greatest rock bands of all time. They single-handedly put an end to the glam rock hair band craze of the '80s by re-establishing the true blues roots of rock and roll. Steven Adler is GUNS N' ROSES' infamous original drummer and co-founder. But Steven's self-destructive obsession with drug use led to Axl Rose firing him from the band in 1990.
In "My Appetite for Destruction", Adler tells all, fearlessly addressing his struggles with heroin and crack addiction; his financial ruin after being kicked out of GN'R; his shattered marriage; and the severe health problems that nearly claimed his life on several occasions.
Steven finally appears to have beaten his epic twenty-year addiction. He has remained clean and sober for over the last year under the watchful eye of family friend Dr. Drew Pinsky.
The first thing Steven was determined to do after cleaning up was to set the record straight. He wants to do this, first and foremost, for all the GUNS N' ROSES fans who have never abandoned him. But "My Appetite for Destruction" is a shocking revelation for anyone who is interested in discovering the truth about what really happened during the meteoric rise and devastating collapse of one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
In "My Appetite For Destruction", Adler explores:
* His childhood: As a young teen Steven was lured into a private party where he was raped and beaten. Never before has this shocking, harrowing tale been told.
* Steven emerged a less trusting, but wiser 14-year-old. He reveals how he discovered a way to learn how to play from some of the best rock drummers in the world!
* His love life: One of Steven's lovers, thinking Steven was leaving her, tried to commit suicide by jumping out a fifth-floor window. And his first wife went out with one of her girlfriends one night, never to return!
* His health: Steven delves into the brutal depression and humiliation borne of his botched suicide attempts, his drug-related heart attacks, and the debilitating stroke that caused him muscular paralysis and permanently slurred speech.
* His bandmates: How Slash, against all reason, reached out to help Steven one last time after the rest of GUNS N' ROSES had given up on him. How Duff snubbed Steven, humiliating him in front of thousands of fans at Farm Aid.
* And what Slash and Axl did to Steven that can never, ever be forgotten.
* His heroics: How Steven discovered a seemingly unconscious and non-responsive Nikki Sixx all alone, and saved his life.
* …and his endless antics: How Steven managed to earn the seething wrath of Axl Rose, Eddie Van Halen and Rod Stewart. And incredible accounts of how GUNS N' ROSES' endless partying made virtually every night a gamble on whether they'd make it to the stage or to the morgue.
This is his tragic, shocking story: Steven Adler was betrayed by roadies, friends, bandmates, and most sadly, family.
In "My Appetite For Destruction" he offers the no-bullshit reason why he believes he was kicked out of GUNS N' ROSES, and how it took 20 years to recover from that devastating blow.
Though his early years were a relentless nightmare of destructive behavior, Adler, who has overdosed over 20 times, had at least two heart attacks and a stroke, is now living clean and healthy. He has found salvation in sobriety and his first love — music. Steven is presently enjoying the success of his new band ADLER'S APPETITE as they begin a forty-plus-city tour.
